Grief Survivor: 30 Steps Toward Hope and Healing

DAY 23 OF 30

NAVIGATION HOLIDAYS AND SPECIAL DAYS

You may have already discovered that birthdays, anniversaries, and other sentimental days can be challenging after a loss. Celebrating the way you always have might feel too painful right now. For the first year or two, you may want to consider changing your traditions.

Thinking ahead can protect you from being caught off guard when a significant day rolls around. Where would you like to spend the day? With whom? Some families find that reaching out to someone in need can be a welcome change on a difficult day.

A few ideas for navigating special days:

- consider a change of venue or menu

- provide a meal for someone in need

- purchase a plant or tree your person would have liked, and plant it somewhere close by

- serve at a shelter or soup kitchen

- take a vacation and come back when the holiday is over

Reflect: Is there a special day coming up? Think about new ideas for how to spend the day, and write about them.

About this Plan

Grief Survivor: 30 Steps Toward Hope and Healing

Losing a loved one can leave you anxious, confused, and even feeling a little bit crazy. The good news is you're not crazy. You're grieving. Author, Beth Marshall understands. After losing some of her favorite family members, she wasn't sure where to turn. She ultimately found great comfort through God's word and by writing straight through the valley until the light began to shine again. You're invited to grab a journal, reflect or write through the daily prompts, and allow the Lord to begin to heal your heart.
