One Week in Prayer 10-Day Devotional on Building a Consistent Habit of Daily Prayer

DAY 7 OF 10

Saturday: Our Friendships, Relationships, and the Salvation of Souls

Praying for Our Friends and Relationships

A few years ago, after the birth of our second child, my wife and I felt led to pray earnestly for friends who had been married for years without children. In a culture where childbearing is seen as an expected milestone, such couples often face undue pressure. By God’s grace, our prayers bore fruit—children began arriving after long seasons of waiting.

The Bible shows God’s compassion toward the “barren”: Hannah, Sarah, Rebekah, and Elizabeth all received miraculous answers. On the other hand, Michal, Saul’s daughter, remained childless due to her contempt toward David’s worship (2 Samuel 6:23). This reminds us that fruitfulness is part of God’s blessing and purpose for His children (Genesis 1:28).

Friendship is a gift from God. Jesus modeled it perfectly, praying for His disciples (John 17) and interceding for Peter’s faith (Luke 22:32). Job’s restoration was linked to his prayer for his friends (Job 42:10). Praying for our friends—whether for healing, family needs, work, or spiritual growth—deepens relationships and reflects God’s heart.

Praying for the Salvation of Souls

The heartbeat of God is that no one should perish but all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). As believers, we are called to be witnesses in our homes, communities, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Soul-winning is not an optional task—it is a direct command from our Lord.

Jesus said heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7). I pray for those I have shared the gospel with, that they will remain steadfast in the faith, grow in the Word, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. I also pray for the grace to continually lead others to Christ through my lifestyle and words, letting my light shine before men so they may glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Daniel in the Bible wrote that those who turn many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever (Daniel 12:3). This eternal perspective should fuel our prayers and actions—seeking not only personal growth but also the salvation and discipleship of others.

Prayer for Friends, Relationships, and Souls

Father, I thank You for the gift of friendship and the relationships You have placed in my life. I lift up my friends before You, especially those waiting for the blessings of children. Let their homes be filled with joy, laughter, and the blessing of godly offspring. Strengthen our bonds of love, and help me be a faithful intercessor.

Lord, give me a burden for the lost. Use me to lead many to Christ through my words and actions. Protect and nurture every new believer, that they may grow strong in faith. Make me a vessel of honor, ready for Your use, and let my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
