30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriage

DAY 11 OF 30

Lord, help us to have eyes only for each other.

An affair can begin in a moment, the moment our eyes settle on someone who isn’t our spouse, and our heart responds in a way that does not honor the Lord. We begin to lust, a condition of the heart that Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, equates with the sin of adultery itself.

In Matthew 5:27 (NIV), Jesus says “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

It’s this pattern of seeing, desiring, and pursuing that makes it so vital for us to pray for eyes, and hearts that long for our spouse and no one else. Genesis 3 shows us where this cycle first began. Eve saw that the fruit was pleasing to the eye, and she wanted it. While this wasn’t infidelity, it reflects the danger of letting what we see shape desires that pull us away from God’s will.

Job 31:1–4 (NIV) reveals the commitment Job made to remain sexually faithful and pure, “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” He was able to stand confidently before his friends and the Lord because he had set clear boundaries to protect his heart from lust.

Today, we must choose to do the same. We are praying for eyes that are drawn only to our spouse and hearts that are fully devoted to them.

Today’s Prayer:

Lord, give us eyes only for one another. Protect us from lust and sinful thoughts. Help us guard ourselves and our marriage against lust. Empower us to flee from lustful thoughts and desires that do not honor you or our marriage.

Bringing your marriage before the Lord is both powerful and redemptive. When two imperfect people stand on Scripture and invite God to strengthen their bond, they build a defense the enemy cannot break. What a gift to know God is for your marriage, and for you. These next 30 days are an invitation to declare his Word over your relationship and trust him with what only he can do: protect, grow, and fortify your marriage from the inside out.
