DAY 2 OF 7

Jesus Is Not Boring

Another reason we won’t be bored in heaven is because we’ll be physically and visually close to Christ.

Think of what an exciting life the disciples experienced in the Gospels. They heard the Sermon on the Mount with their own ears, watched their nets strain with fish at His bidding, stood in awe as dead people returned to life, participated in inexplicable miracles like the taming of vicious storms, and experienced the greatest surprise of their lives when Jesus suddenly appeared to them on the day of His resurrection.

While they were gathered together, talking about the stunning news that their Lord had risen, “Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you’” (Luke 24:36). Wow! That was not a boring day.

Peter walked on water (Matthew 14:28). Mary Magdalene was rid of her demons (Luke 8:2). Peter, James, and John met Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:4). Zacchaeus looked downward and saw Jesus looking up at him through the branches of a sycamore tree (Luke 19:1–10). And Stephen looked upward and saw Jesus standing at the throne (Acts 7:56).

Can you imagine a boring day with the Stranger of Galilee who raised the dead, healed the lepers, overturned the tables at the temple, walked across the sea, fed thousands of people with a few fish and loaves, rose from the grave, and ascended into the heavens?

All of us who have sought to walk with Christ through the years know that the Christian life is one of joy, comfort, excitement, and sometimes uncertainty as we wait to see what our Lord will do next. He is with us when the weather patterns of our lives change. He gives daily strength for daily needs. He provides promises and answers prayer.

Yet right now we don’t even see Him face-to-face! Peter said, “whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8).

Imagine how much more majestic, awe-inspiring, precious, and joyful our lives will be when we see Jesus as He is!

Lord Jesus, the Scriptures remind me just how exciting and eventful life with You will be in heaven. I can’t wait to see you face-to-face and dwell with you in my eternal home! Amen.

About this Plan

The Promise of Heaven by Dr. David Jeremiah

Nobody likes being bored. Not at work. Not at home. Not anywhere. In our go-go-go culture, it seems like there’s never a good time to be bored. Many Christians believe heaven will be boring—that all we’ll be doing forever is strumming harps, floating on clouds, and polishing streets of gold. Thankfully, that’s not true! Let’s look at seven reasons why heaven will not, and could not, be boring.
