WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

DAY 50 OF 61

GOD DOES EXIST

Is 29: 22- 24
Therefore, thus says the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob:
“Jacob shall no more be ashamed, no more shall his face grow pale. For when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in his midst, they will sanctify my name, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. And those who go astray in spirit will come to understanding, and those who murmur will accept instruction.” (ESV)

God gave Isaiah a strange and difficult calling: to prophecy of impending judgment to a stubborn people who would not listen. But in the midst of this judgment, Isaiah declares a message of hope. This judgment is not forever; God is chastising His people, to awaken them out of their apathy and unbelief and bring them to faith to the Holy One of Israel.
God speaks to us loudly in the midst of our disappointments and sufferings! He wants us to turn to Him and know Him as the Holy One of Israel, and as our Father who art in heaven.

Acts 17:24-28
The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for
“‘In him we live and move and have our being’” (ESV)

While visiting Athens, surrounded by pagan images, Paul began his gospel exhortation by first pointing to the truths they had in common – that God exists. Now, when they [the Athenians] heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.” (v. 32, ESV) This chapter showcases Paul as the master evangelist. But he used a simple method that we can adopt. Like Paul, when we encounter unbelievers along the way, first find a common truth then segue into a discussion of the gospel, leaving the listeners’ response in God’s hands.

About this Plan

WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

In this 17th installment of Reading with the People of God, we continue following a lectionary rhythm—Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan explores the prophetic voices of Micah, Habakkuk, and Isaiah, who confronted kings and warned of coming judgment while pointing to the hope of the Messiah. Alongside these, we'll read from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, tracing the life of Christ and the birth of the Church. As we read these powerful passages in parallel, may the Spirit shape us and grow us in Christ together.
