WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

DAY 49 OF 61

Living by Faith

As we come back to Habakkuk again, our 2 verses today will remind us of the importance of living our lives by faith. This has not so much the focus on religious performance or duty, but rather simple trust and dependence on God. Despite all outward and inward circumstances, if God said it, we can believe Him! This answer by God here dealt specifically with the prophet’s frustrations and fears. Would God really leave the guilty in Judah and Babylon unpunished? Of course, Habakkuk never saw this, but in 538 B.C. Babylon did fall to Persia. God is the Lord of history! Oh, that we could wait for God’s timing to bring about His purposes today…

Our Acts text today will continue the march of the gospel into new areas. We will meet Timothy, who we will see again. Luke records 3 unique gospel encounters in the city of Philippi, a Roman colony. A city with barely any Jewish presence, the gospel will continue to move in power. Paul said, “It was the power of God for salvation” (Romans 1:16). We will see how Paul and Silas express their faith in God by being sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Note the “we” narrative now, as Luke joins the missionary team. When we live out our faith daily, the gospel will spread to those around. Sometimes, as we will see, your citizenship will make a difference.

As you walk by faith today, pay close attention to how God may be using your unique situation to share the power of Christ and His good news. That’s living by faith!

About this Plan

WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

In this 17th installment of Reading with the People of God, we continue following a lectionary rhythm—Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan explores the prophetic voices of Micah, Habakkuk, and Isaiah, who confronted kings and warned of coming judgment while pointing to the hope of the Messiah. Alongside these, we'll read from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, tracing the life of Christ and the birth of the Church. As we read these powerful passages in parallel, may the Spirit shape us and grow us in Christ together.
