WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

DAY 17 OF 61

ACCOUNTABILITY OF LEADERSHIP

Today’s reading begins again with difficult news. Because of the questionable character of the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, God would remove them from leadership. This is probably during the time of Uzziah, and God was about to remove the male leaders, as well as the wealthy women. In a bit of satire, the prophet said if the nation wanted to trust in incompetent leaders, then God would go ahead and give them some really bad ones. Imagine the qualification for leadership being you have a cloak! Do you think this can still happen today? God help us!

As we read our account in Luke today, we will see Jesus’ sayings on relationships with other believers and to God Himself. There is a severe warning not to become a scandal to a fellow believer. Some ways might include: offending someone by ridicule; lying to or cheating them; performing acts that might be harmless in themselves but cause a weaker believer to become troubled; teaching heresy; persecuting believers; or seeking self-aggrandizement. Much is said about seeking reconciliation with other believers and to forgive and accept their repentance. The Lord’s Prayer should come to mind for all of us!

About this Plan

WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

In this 17th installment of Reading with the People of God, we continue following a lectionary rhythm—Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan explores the prophetic voices of Micah, Habakkuk, and Isaiah, who confronted kings and warned of coming judgment while pointing to the hope of the Messiah. Alongside these, we'll read from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, tracing the life of Christ and the birth of the Church. As we read these powerful passages in parallel, may the Spirit shape us and grow us in Christ together.
