Hope Now: 27 Days to Peace, Healing, and Justice

DAY 11 OF 27

Creating healing experiences

There are numerous examples in the Gospels that demonstrate how Jesus healed people with physical issues. Jairus, a synagogue leader, knew his daughter was dying, or so he thought. Jairus thought he could reach Jesus in time to heal his daughter, but it was too late.

“Your daughter is dead. Don’t bother the teacher anymore,” one of Jairus’ servants said. Jesus heard this conversation and said, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” (Luke 8:49-50 NIV)

When Jesus arrived at his house, he said, “She is not dead but asleep.” He took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and she stood up at once. (Luke 8:54-55 NIV)

Most of the healing experiences in the Gospels happened just this way – immediately. But not all healing by Jesus was resolved immediately. In fact, when he sent his disciples out and told them to heal the sick, he wasn’t expecting an immediate resolution. The disciples would have to arrive, engage, and begin a process of healing among the people they encountered. The first step is to arrive, show up, and come near those we wish to serve.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What kinds of healing do you think people need today?
  • How do peace and hope emerge from the possibility of healing?

About this Plan

Hope Now: 27 Days to Peace, Healing, and Justice

Is there a wall between meeting the practical needs of people and meeting their spiritual needs? Can you only meet one or the other? Learn how these needs are two sides of the same coin and how both are not only doable but must be done. Additionally, experience how to find your kingdom purpose - and how that can bring hope and healing to others.
