More Than Just a Story - the Book of Johnনমুনা

Come on, man! Were you really blind?! Yeah, we’ve all said it a time or two. Well, the blind man healed by Jesus probably thought the same thing. No matter how hard he tried to convince the religious leaders, they refused to believe him. And Jesus? He could have said it to them, too! Like, Hello? The man is telling the truth! I’m the one who restored his sight!
But Jesus didn’t respond that way—because He doesn’t hurl insults. Instead, He used this encounter to reveal the truth: that He is who He says He is, starting with the healed man himself. At first, the man didn’t believe in the Son of God. However, Scripture had foretold that the promised Savior would be God’s own Son, born into the world as a flesh-and-blood human being (Isaiah 7:14). When Jesus pointed to Himself as the Son of God, the man realized the promise had been fulfilled. He was no longer just physically healed—his spiritual blindness was cured as well.
Yet, the religious leaders remained spiritually blind. Despite Jesus showing and telling them the truth, they refused to see it.
How does Jesus’ conversation with the healed man in this passage show the importance of personal faith in Him, rather than just witnessing miracles?
The Pharisees claimed to see the truth but remained spiritually blind. How can we guard ourselves against spiritual blindness in our own lives?
Jesus says, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains” (John 9:41). What does this mean, and how does it apply to those who think they already have all the answers about faith?
