[2020 Vision Series] Victory in Our Battles

DAY 7 OF 7

## Trust in the Providence of God When we talk about the providence of God, we are referring to receiving something in a way that we don’t expect. When the answer comes in a supernatural way, we know that the love of God is the only reason behind it. Can we trust in God’s providence? In the Battle of Brooklyn, during the American Revolution, the British were trying to get the Americans back on their side. There were 32,000 British forces coming in from Long Island into Brooklyn at three different fronts against the 19,000 forces of the Continental Army led by George Washington. The Americans began to retreat, and the British decided to spend the rest of the afternoon digging trenches so that Washington couldn’t escape. Their ships went around the bay, to catch him in the middle. God, in His providence, helped the Americans. There just happened to be no wind that day. The British ships could not sail to come around the bay. So, Washington decided to get his soldiers out of Brooklyn by crossing the river northeast into Manhattan. They shuttled all night long to get the men off the island, but morning came and not all of his men had made it across the river. It was sure annihilation, except for the fact that a thick fog fell over Brooklyn that day and the British had to wait. This gave Washington just enough time to get his army into Manhattan and head north. Amazingly, the U.S. stands today as a free country because on one particular day there was no wind, and some thick fog came down. God’s providence is everywhere. We can surely trust Him to fight our battles. You never know why the wind is not blowing today, and why suddenly your life has become a little bit foggy. If we get His perspective, play our position, recognize who we are in Christ, fill ourselves with His presence, let our praise go out, and believe in the finished work of Jesus in the cross and in God’s providence, we can rest assured the victory is ours. Maybe we won’t get any richer nor more famous, but we will be victorious in the things that matter on both sides of heaven. Let’s pray, “Lord, though we don’t know how You are going to pull us through; we will surely see Your victory."
