YHWH said, “See! They are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language so that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city with a tower whose top reaches to the heavens. And let us make a name for ourselves, otherwise we be scattered across the surface of the whole earth.”

Therefore its name was called Babel, because there YHWH confused the language of all the earth. From there, YHWH scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

The whole earth had one language and a common speech.

YHWH came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

So YHWH scattered them from there across the surface of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
