Follow The Commands
In today's chapter, we see Moses taking the effort to spell out the various commands and laws in detail. With no written copy of the law, people needed to be reminded continuously. This was Moses's last chance even as he passed the baton to Joshua.
If we thought, to believe God's impossible promises was uncomfortable enough, to obey God's law takes us further into the discomfort zone. However, when I start looking at the law as guidelines to help me have a beautiful relationship with a God who loves me, it becomes easier to understand and follow. I show God my love by keeping His commands. He shows His love by fulfilling His promises. Even as we are struggling to obey God's commandments, we are blessed as new testament believers to have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. The Israelites only had Moses, priests and prophets to give them God's word.
Some of the commands may be straight forward. What about those commands which touch grey areas? Let me share a simple example. I was manipulated with lies by those close to me to be part of debatable actions I did not agree with. If I shared my opinion, I was accused of being a difficult person. This continued for years. I suppressed my hurt, unwillingly allowing myself to be manipulated. I believed God was pleased with me as I was avoiding strife and living in virtual peace. One day God reprimanded me saying that I was at fault and He was not happy with my actions. As the actions were debatable, yes, there was no clear right and wrong. As a child of God, I had to live a life that reflected what I believed and not be manipulated to live others desires. I had unknowingly become a girl living a lie, displeasing myself and God. Taking a stand was not easy; I still struggle, but today the Holy Spirit has filled my heart with peace as I know God is pleased with my actions. Those who manipulated me think that I am difficult and wrong and are not happy with my change in actions, but I know it's a matter of time before God makes them realize the truth.
Thought for the day: Which area in my life is God not pleased?
Lord, help me be sensitive to the promptings as I obey your commands your way.
