One year can change the entire world, whether in the Bible or in our lives. Hannah’s blessing in the birth of Samuel manifested a miracle that would teach her important lessons in the process. These lessons are crucial for us to learn how to navigate the chaos, irritants, recovery pains, and deeper pains. 1 Samuel teaches us that worldly pain is a righteous pathway to God’s ultimate promise!

Judges through 2 Samuel continues the story of Israel's rise as a nation and seeing God use unlikely people to establish His plan and purposes.

This is part two of a four-part plan to read the books of the Bible that tell of the historical events. Although the Bible contains many stories, it is one story from beginning to end of God’s interactions with humanity. One day per week can be used to catch up on missed readings or for reflection. Notes are also included to assist with understanding.

1 Samuel charts the rise and fall of several of Israel’s leaders. You’ll meet the notoriously arrogant king Saul and see the ascent of the man after God’s own heart – David. You’ll read of dangerous battles, murder plots, giants and even more surprises in this book.  You’ll see that despite turbulence in leadership, seemingly strong enemies and spiritual decay God is very much at work orchestrating the fall of the proud and the rise of the humble. What an encouragement for us today when we are faced with challenges not too dissimilar to these!

This reading plan focuses on the life lessons we can learn by following the life of a young shepherd boy named David who was chosen by God to be king of Israel during a dark time in Israel's history.  This boy king would bring about Israel's salvation from her enemies and through his line would bring about salvation for the whole world.

Gospel-Centered Teammates

Take a moment and think about your favorite brands, like Nike, Gucci, Apple, etc. If you saw someone wearing that brand, what would you typically associate with them? Being branded can mean either having a brand name or it can also mean being marked. If anyone in the Bible knows what it is like to be branded, it is David in the Old Testament.

In the first centuries of their existence as a people, the Israelites had no king. Instead, God appointed prophets and judges to lead them. The last prophet-judge was Samuel. He was a faithful leader who wanted to serve the Lord and to seek the best for his people. This reading plan takes you through Samuel’s life in 15 days and contains valuable lessons that are still relevant today.
