The book named Song of Songs is a collection of very beautiful love poetry. This poetry tells about the deep love between a man and a woman. These songs may have been used often in wedding celebrations. Later they were collected and put into book form. Some people think King Solomon wrote these love poems. Other people think these poems were written for King Solomon or about him.
The songs are arranged to tell the love story of a man and a woman. The songs describe their wedding as a royal wedding. In the ancient world people getting married were treated like a king and queen. The songs tell of their coming together as husband and wife. They describe what the husband and wife look like. And the songs tell of the beginning of their new life together.
After a short beginning, the book has six parts. Each part usually ends with a comment about the friends of the man and woman. These friends may have come to celebrate the wedding.
The songs in the book celebrate the joys of married love. And they celebrate the beauty of the human body. It shows that all things are a beautiful part of God’s creation. And God calls that creation very good!
