The Lord isn’t slow to keep his promise, not slow in the way some people understand it. Instead, he’s being patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. He wants everyone to turn away from their sins.

But don’t forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

So grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May he receive glory both now and forever. Amen.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be seen for what they really are.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and help it come more quickly. On that day fire will destroy the heavens, and the elements will melt in the heat.
