"Be the seed." The plant starts life as a seed, which germinates and grows into a plant. The mature plant produces flowers, which are fertilized and produce seeds in a fruit or seedpod. The plant eventually dies, leaving seeds which germinate to produce new plants. Annuals take one year to complete their life cycle. This cycle describes the life cycle of seeds; a plant starts with a seed and still ends with a seed. It kind of reminds me of the scripture in the gospel of John the first chapter, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” Jesus was the seed, planted himself in the world, germinated, and grew into the true vine, and then died, and rose again, but then left us with the capability to become seeds ourselves, helping others to grow and accept the knowledge and love and grace of Christ. Your destiny, in part, as a Christian is to be the seed. The great thing about the seed is that it has everything inside of it necessary to become the plant it is intended to be. The storm helps it grow, the sun helps it mature, and whatever it is transformed into also produces more seeds because God wants us to help cultivate and fill his garden. This is his will, that when you are converted you will strengthen your brothers and sisters. In being the seed, also consider what you are planted in, as all soil or dirt is not created equal. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”-- but I will not be mastered by anything. - 1 Corinthians 6:12 To begin to cultivate your seed, close your eyes and answer these questions. 1. What type of soil am I planted in? 2. Am I doing things that are good and beneficial for me? 3. What am I doing to bring others into the knowledge and love of Christ? In order to accomplish this, think through “head, heart, and legs” for each item. Head - What will I need to feed my mind in order to accomplish these tasks? Heart - How will I build up resilience to be able to maintain emotional strength? Legs - What habits will I need to form in order to accomplish these tasks? Prayer starter God, I thank you for making me a seed. Thank you for connecting me to you. Help me to do more to be a living testimony for you. Adorn me with your praise, that the world may glorify you through my life. I exalt your holy name, and you’ve got my full attention. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
