Who Is He? Who Are We?Намуна

In this chapter, we read of the first recorded miracle that Jesus, the Son of God, performs amongst His people. He is welcomed to a wedding on the third day of His journey, alongside His disciples, and at once the wine is gone. During this time, the entire mood of the wedding shifts because the lack of wine is looked down upon as distasteful. Jesus’ mother expresses that there is a need, one that He can fulfill. Jesus involves His disciples right away and instructs the servants to fill the wine jars, which are 30 gallons deep, and they do so, up to the brim, scripture says. The servants bring a ladle full of wine to the master to taste, which sparks the attention of the guests. Verse 10 says, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” He revealed His glory to many through the continuation of the celebration and fulfilled needs in the room.
Throughout our lives, hearing the story of Jesus turning water into wine might have been portrayed as a simple miracle that He did to keep the wedding going, yet the significance is found in so much more. Jesus fulfills the very need of each character involved in the story, helping them to recognize that He is the need their souls were looking for all along. When Mary involves Jesus in the dispute, she shows us how to respect Jesus to do the big things, but not tell Him how to do it. When the servants filled each jar to the brim, they demonstrated utmost obedience to Jesus. When the bridegroom receives new wine, he shows that Jesus can save the day. And when the disciples saw this miracle, they began to widen their belief in Jesus because His glory was shown to many.
Jesus demonstrated His compassion for His people through fulfilling their deepest need: more of Him. The party would not have gone on without the gift of the Savior and His desire to come together with His people in their suffering. We can recognize through this miracle that everything we need we already have, and His name is Jesus. Let Him take care of and supply you with every essential desire you have because without Him, we have nothing. He is willing and able to provide for the good of those who love Him.
How are you going to receive the glory of needing more of Him today? Does that look like spending five minutes in silence, worship, or rest in His presence? Or taking a minute to write out your needs and expressing them to God?
Sit and be still with Him. He is ready to meet with you. Are you ready to meet with Him?
