How should Christians relate to government authority?
These verses command Christians to respect and obey lawful authority because God has established it.
But there are times when man’s laws contradict God’s Word. For example, Daniel chose to pray to the Lord even when the king’s law forbade it. Faithfulness to God always comes first.
How should you apply this truth? Ensure that you honor the laws, pay your taxes, and, as much as possible, live with others in peace. But most importantly, never compromise God’s commands, even if it costs you something.
Remain a faithful citizen, but remember that you serve God first. Obey authority where you can, but stand firm for God where you must.
