What does it mean that believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise?
A seal serves as an identifying mark to establish ownership. The Holy Spirit, dwelling within us, serves as a form of identification. The Holy Spirit is like a seal demonstrating that we belong to Christ and that our salvation is secure. Romans 8:9 says, “If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”
What does it mean that the Holy Spirit is the “earnest of our inheritance”?
The believer is guaranteed not only the full inheritance of eternal dwelling with the Lord but also the presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer's earthly life.
We grieve the Holy Spirit when we disobey the Word of God, when we fail to show kindness, compassion, and forgiveness to others. To avoid grieving the Holy Spirit, believers should confess sins, repent, and turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance. If you have accepted Christ as your Savior, you have the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions and help you as you navigate this life!
