Emotional Wholeness ≠ Emotional Suppression

In many cultures, emotional suppression is mistaken for strength. Men are told not to cry. Women are told not to be “too emotional.” Christians are told to “just pray it away.” But emotional wholeness is not about hiding how we feel—it’s about mastering it.

Proverbs 29:11 contrasts the fool and the wise. Both have anger, but only the wise know when and how to express it. Emotional control is not denial—it’s discernment. Jesus was emotionally whole. He wept, rejoiced, and even overturned tables in righteous anger. Yet He was never manipulated by emotions. He chose when to express them.

Emotional wholeness means you can laugh when it’s time to laugh and mourn when it’s time to mourn. It means you’re not ruled by mood swings or external triggers. You are anchored in truth. Emotional numbness is not holiness—it’s brokenness. God wants you to feel, but He also wants you to lead your emotions, not be led by them.

Prayer:

Jesus, You were never ruled by emotions, yet You felt deeply. Teach me to follow Your example. Help me to express my emotions with wisdom and restraint. Heal the places where I’ve suppressed or misused my feelings. Make me emotionally whole and spiritually strong.
