Eternal Promises of Heaven

DAY 1 OF 5

Heaven Is Our Home
We will never be at home until we have heaven in our hearts.

We have the promise of heaven to look forward to as we live our lives today. Take a good look around you. The God of the universe has enveloped you with never-ending beauty. Above your head each day is a swirling mixture of clouds, cobalt, and a canopy of stars stretching 2.5 million light-years into the depths of the universe. Beneath your feet are meadows and grass. Around you are trees and flowers. Birds wing their way through the pathless air, and the spanning oceans rise and fall with the tides. What a beautiful world! Sometimes the wonder of nature can lift your spirits, but there is still something that tugs at our hearts that can’t be filled with anything but the promise of eternity.

God created heaven for us, and until it is a part of our lives, we will never be at home. What you think about heaven determines how you live today. Most of us want to go to heaven someday, just not necessarily today. And I think that’s normal. In the next few days, we will look at some common questions about heaven so we can live in anticipate our eternal home.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God “has made everything beautiful in its time.” It goes on to say, “He has put eternity in their hearts.” God has built our world with His artistry and placed inside us a desire to enjoy His creation forever. As Christians, we should be taking the time to learn more about our future heavenly home so that we can keep heaven in our mind’s eye. Not only will it give us something to look forward to, but it will also uplift and encourage us as we walk through the troubles of this world.

It is my hope that in anticipating your future in heaven, you will spend time encouraging others to learn more about Jesus. In this way, they, too, can fill the space that’s missing something with the fullness of Christ and the security of an eternity with Him in heaven. God wants us to live for Him, and one of our goals ought to be to take as many people with us to heaven as we can.
