Let It Go: Learn to Trust the One Who Holds Everything Together

DAY 5 OF 5

The Freedom in Letting it Go!
By: Rosalynn Long

“Sure, I can do that!” Those four words have rolled off my tongue more times than I can count. Whether it’s watching a friend’s kids so she can grocery shop in peace, giving another friend a ride when they only have one car, or hosting a baby shower for a new mama who also just PCS’d—I genuinely love helping people.

Jumping into our new home, somewhere between “just one more thing” and “I’ll rest later,” my serving started to feel more like striving. I thrive on doing and feel purposeful when I’m busy, yet beneath it all, burnout and anxiety quietly grow. Deep down, I fear that slowing down might look selfish—or even lazy.

I want to serve Jesus; to make everything just right. But Jesus cares more about presence than productivity. He doesn’t dismiss the good work you do for His glory, but He is inviting you to rest in His presence.

He’s able to handle what we don’t accomplish if it means more time for our hearts to sit with Him.

Colossians 1:19–20 reminds us that peace isn’t earned through effort —it’s already been secured through Christ. The peace we crave doesn’t come from keeping up or managing it all—it comes from being near the Prince of Peace Himself.

Your life of striving will be set free by a life of surrender.

Striving keeps us busy, but surrender brings rest. Abiding starts with coming to His Word—not to check a box, but to pause.

Scripture steadies us when life pulls in every direction and helps us see what truly matters. It’s asking, “Lord, what have You actually called me to today?” and letting His truth reorder our priorities—presence before productivity.

He restores our weary souls with His living water, shifting us from pressure to peace. Abiding isn’t about what you accomplish for Him; it’s about being with Him and becoming more like Jesus.

As you let go, remember this: the Holy Spirit is already working in the spaces you can’t control. He can do more in your marriage, in your children’s hearts, in your friendships, and in your circumstances than you ever could in your own effort.

Surrender isn’t giving up—it’s giving God room to move. This week, we’ve talked about letting go of control, comparison, expectations, and the pressure to hold it all together. But here’s the beautiful truth: when we let go, we don’t fall into emptiness—we fall into grace.

In releasing what was never ours to carry, we gain what our hearts were made for: a life anchored in Him. God’s calling on us was never about performance—it’s always been about relationship. So lay down striving, military wife, and come to Jesus.

He delights to meet you right where you are—to walk with you through every change this military life brings: the highs, the lows, and the in-between sudden surprises. Let His nearness steady your heart and His grace shape your days.
