Lies & Truth CanvasНамуна

Past – Redeemed and Set Free from Guilt
Our past can feel like a heavy chain. Memories of sin, shame, or regret may linger and try to define us. The enemy loves to use our past to whisper: “You’ll never change,” or “You don’t deserve God’s love.” But Jesus came to set us free from exactly this. If you are born again, your sins are forgiven—fully and forever. God removed the eternal punishment you deserved through Jesus’ death on the cross. It is finished.
Still, we must work out our salvation with “fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). While forgiveness is complete, God doesn’t always remove the consequences of sin. But He redeems, restores, and works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Sanctification is the process of becoming more like Jesus—a daily journey of repentance, honesty, and surrender. Let’s confront the lies that keep us in shame and embrace the truth that we are no longer defined by our past.
Identified Lies & Truth
Lie: “God cannot forgive you because of your past.”
Truth: 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
No sin is too great for His mercy. He is faithful every time we come with a sincere heart.
Lie: “You are defined by your past mistakes.” / “You’re unqualified to serve God because of your past.”
Truth: 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
In Christ, you are not your past - you are new. Your story is now one of redemption, not condemnation.
Lie: “You will never overcome your past sins or habits.” / “You cannot break free from the guilt of your past.”
Truth: Romans 8:37: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
You are not stuck. Jesus makes you victorious over old patterns and shame.
Lie: “Your failures make you unworthy of God’s love.”
Truth: Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
God’s love isn’t based on your perfection, but on Christ’s sacrifice, freely given even before you changed.
Lie: “You deserve to keep suffering for your past sins.”
Truth: Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus took the punishment. You are not under God’s wrath, only His grace.
Lie: “You are too broken to be used by God.”
Truth: 1 Timothy 1:12–13: “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord… that He considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man…”
If God could use Paul, He can absolutely use you. Your past becomes a platform for His glory.
Lie: “God still remembers your sin.”
Truth: Psalm 103:12: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
When God forgives, it’s gone—completely and eternally.
Self-Evaluation
- Have I truly accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation and been born again?
- What past labels still define me, and how do they differ from what God says about me?
- Do I still carry shame over things God has already forgiven?
- Do I believe my story disqualifies me from being used by God?
- Am I participating with the Holy Spirit in my daily sanctification?
Repentance
Father, I repent for holding onto guilt and believing that my past defines me. Forgive me for doubting the power of the Cross. I lay down my past and surrender my shame. Wash me again in your mercy and help me walk forward in freedom.
Closing Encouragement
You are not your past. Jesus broke the power of sin and shame on the Cross. God is not holding your sins over your head—He has removed them. Let His mercy write your next chapter. Step into it boldly, not as a slave to regret but as a witness of His grace.
About this Plan

One of the enemy's greatest tactics is to constantly feed us lies about ourselves, others and our circumstances. Accepting these lies is sinful and calls for acknowledgement and repentance. The only way to defeat these thoughts is through the Truth of God's Word. We must not rely on our feelings or let them guide us, but stand firmly on the truth and the truth alone. The truth alone can set us free!
