Daily Fellowship

God's people should be helping God's people. Consider Galatians 6:10 (AV), "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." I personally do not believe this means you may only conduct business with believers, but I do believe that Christians should intentionally be looking for ways to encourage others in the family of God.

One of the buzzwords in religious circles we hear is about the need for "community." Jesus had another name for it: "church." This is not some new thing and certainly not man's idea! The Lord's intent was for His people to have Daily Fellowship with one another.

This kind of fellowship is not to be done once a week. It is to be daily! The Scripture tells us of the new believers in the early church, "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart" (Acts 2:46 AV).

It is of note that the very next verse says that the Lord added "daily" to the church, "such as should be saved." It is my conviction that daily fellowship is connected to our daily witness. Jesus declared, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:35 AV). That is a big if!

We were saved for daily fellowship. Certainly, our fellowship is to be with God. Yet the Apostle John said when we are walking in the light, we not only have fellowship with Him but also "one with another" (1 John 1:7 AV). A believer who cannot enjoy being with other believers is not walking in the light!

Daily fellowship is not optional; it is necessary. We need one another.

God's design was that each member of His body contribute to all the other members. Study the New Testament and you will discover this repeated emphasis. We are to love one another, forgive one another, pray for one another, edify one another, exhort one another ...

Well, you get the idea! The Christian life is never just about me. It is a "one another" life. Remember that Christ sent His disciples out two by two. Never alone.

The Psalmist declared that God setteth the solitary in families (Psalm 68:6). There is no greater family than the family of God. The fellowship of believers should be one of the most attractive things about those who know the Lord.

"Lone ranger" Christians are going to be terribly out of place in Heaven. From eternity past, the Godhead enjoyed perfect fellowship. Imagine a constant conversation and communion between the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! This was the "oneness" for which Christ prayed in John 17. This is what the family portrait is supposed to look like.

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1 AV)

Daily Challenge:

• Seek out one fellow believer every day for the next week to whom you can be a blessing.
• Show some kindness, share a meal, offer an encouraging word, and pray with them.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you.
• One person every day – this will be a good first step toward daily fellowship.
