Through My Father's Eyes

DAY 2 OF 6

Day 2: My Chosen One

Definition:

1. Choose: Pick out or select (someone or something) as being the best or most appropriate of two or more alternatives (Oxford Dictionary).

2. Chosen: having been selected as the best or most appropriate (Oxford Dictionary). Is one who is the object of choice or of divine favour (Merriam-Webster).

Growing up, I played field hockey, which I loved and excelled at. It was my preferred sport in high school. However, one year I decided to try volleyball so I could hang out with my friends. Unfortunately, I wasn't very good at volleyball. When it came time to select teams, I dreaded the experience because I often noticed I was chosen last. It didn't feel like being chosen at all; it felt like I was just the last girl standing, so I went with the team that had the last pick. When I was not chosen first or even halfway through, it felt like rejection, reinforcing my belief that I wasn’t good enough.

When people select team members, they choose the best, brightest, and most talented individuals. Similarly, in professional sports, only the top players make the playing roster. So when you consider God, who has the entire world to choose from, I am humbled that He chose you and me. He saw something in us that others often overlook. To some, we might be surprise picks—like, “God, seriously, what were you thinking?” But to Him, we are precisely what He wanted. Our brokenness and imperfections never deterred His choice because He knew He could display His glory in and through us. So yes, you are God's pick! He chose YOU. He picked you as the best and most appropriate choice, fully aware of everything you are. That's a big deal. Don’t fight it; accept that you are chosen. If heaven had a “Kingdom First Draft Pick,” you would be it. End of discussion. So through your heavenly Father’s eyes, God says, “You are my chosen.”
