ECCLESIASTES 6
THE TRAP OF DISCONTENTMENT
There is evil in the world, robbing us of enjoying God’s gifts. Even when we have wealth, we can’t always enjoy it. The Teacher asserts that it would be better to be a stillborn child, never experiencing this world, than to live and never be satisfied.
People toil their entire lives trying to satisfy their cravings, but are they ever really full? There is not much we can do to control what happens, so the Teacher reminds us there is little value in dwelling on the past or endlessly dreaming about the future.
STUDY QUESTIONS
The author encourages delighting in good things and considering them as gifts from God. How can you continually thank and praise God for the good gifts in your life?
Have you ever reached a goal or accomplishment that left you unfulfilled? Why is it easy to fall into the trap of wanting the next best thing?
