You Are Not Here To Hide

Today, we’re treated to another version of Jesus’ “salt” and “light” imagery. Christ asks a provocative question: “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?” (Mark 4:21).

Jesus’ rhetorical language makes His point clear: The proclamation of God’s Kingdom is to be shouted from the rooftops, not whispered in the corners. It’s the most beautiful message the world needs to hear.

This truth, though, presents us with a challenge.

If the Good News is designed to be lifted high, then we, as God’s earthly ambassadors, have a job to do. We have a responsibility to share our faith so God’s love can transform people’s lives.

How easy do you find it to share your faith?

Often, our nervousness boils down to one of three issues: feeling inadequate, feeling unprepared, or feeling scared. These emotions are normal and valid. But here’s today’s take-home message: Your faith has never depended on your knowledge, goodness, or courage. It’s always relied on Jesus.

With this in mind, here are three faith-sharing principles you can apply today:

First, ask questions. Listen before you speak. Ask before you answer. Love them before you lecture them.

Secondly, go slow. Sharing God’s goodness is a journey to be walked with people step-by-step. Don’t feel like you have to get everything across at once.

Finally, and most importantly: Trust God. He’s the One who initiates and accomplishes salvation. You’re just the messenger. Ask for His help.

Jesus isn’t asking you to be the light today, but He is inviting you to be a lampstand for His light. When you depend on God, His light will shine through.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, place me where Your light can shine the brightest, even when I feel small or inadequate. Teach me to walk patiently with others, step by step, never rushing but always trusting in Your timing. Let my words, my actions, and even my silence carry the fragrance of Your love, so that those around me may be drawn to the beauty of Your Kingdom.
