Courageous Hope

DAY 3 OF 5

Hope in the Midst of Danger

My journey has taken me into some of the most dangerous places in the world. I’ll never forget being told, “Mr. Hoskins, there are men trying to kill you.” In that moment, fear could have gripped me. Yet I sensed God’s presence surrounding me in a way that words can barely describe.

Following Christ doesn’t exempt us from risk; in fact, it often takes us right into it. Courage doesn’t mean we never feel afraid; it means we choose to trust God when fear is present. Every time I’ve stood in harm’s way, God reminded me that my life is in His hands. The mission He gave me was not mine to protect; it was His to fulfill.

You may not face physical danger, but you will face moments when following Jesus requires courage. Maybe it’s speaking up when it’s easier to stay silent, holding on to faith when circumstances scream otherwise, or stepping out when everything in you wants to stay comfortable. It’s in these moments that you discover what I’ve learned: God’s presence is most real in the places where we feel most vulnerable.

Reflect
What fears hold you back from following God more boldly? How can you surrender those to Him today?

Pray
Lord, strengthen me when I face fear or opposition. Remind me that You are my refuge and courage, and help me stand firm in faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan

Courageous Hope

From a seven-year-old boy in Oklahoma called to be an evangelist to a global missionary who helped bring God’s Word to over two billion young people, Bob Hoskins’ life has been an unexpected journey. Yet his story is not about him—it’s about the faithfulness of God. In this five-day devotional drawn from Bob’s book Courageous Hope, you’ll be invited into powerful lessons from his lifetime of following Christ. Each day will inspire you to trust God for the impossible, live boldly in His call, and embrace a life of courageous hope.
