A Disciple's JourneyНамуна

The Path to Failure
Overconfidence
One of the things we see brewing in Peter before he stumbles is overconfidence. He didn’t believe he could fail. He couldn’t even imagine it. Peter had a love for his Lord that was clearly sincere and passionate; that is undeniable. But Peter couldn’t see his own blind spots, and that’s why he wouldn’t listen to Christ’s warnings.
Just think of the Titanic, the ocean liner so advanced for its time that someone was rumored to have said, “Not even God himself could sink this ship.” And yet there was an iceberg too big for it to avoid, as the crew unknowingly went straight toward danger at full speed. Overconfidence is dangerous. It can make us fail to be self-reflective and take simple precautions. It can make us refuse to heed warnings. Overconfidence makes us vulnerable to stumbling off the path.
About this Plan

Before going on a difficult journey, you need to have a plan. You also need to find people headed to the same destination, so you can encourage each other, train together, and prepare for what lies ahead. That is what A Disciple’s Journey is designed to provide. Each week, you will follow along with the apostle Peter in his journey of discipleship. With each step of his journey, we can find resonances with our own and wisdom for how to navigate the Christian life.
