Only You Can Be You

DAY 7 OF 8

Day 7: Moving Day!

Theme: Getting a Fresh Start with God

Key Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Reflection:
“The first step toward getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.” — J. P. Morgan

Moving Day
Everyone loves the idea of a fresh start—until it actually arrives. That’s when the packing boxes, moving vans, and sweaty work make you question the whole process.

We’ve moved five times in the past twenty years. Each time, we packed, labeled, loaded, unloaded, unpacked, and rearranged until we couldn’t lift another box. No one likes the work involved in moving, but everyone loves that first morning in the new place, waking up to a fresh start.

Moving is hard work. It’s not just about boxes and furniture. It’s about leaving behind places that were familiar, comfortable, and full of memories—both good and bad. It’s about making a conscious decision to leave behind what no longer fits in your life and moving forward into God’s new plan for you.

Letting Go of the Past
In the same way, spiritual moving day requires us to leave behind what no longer belongs in our lives. Old sins, unhealthy relationships, habits, and ways of thinking—all of these have to go if we want to move forward.

God’s Word says:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
— Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

You can’t move forward if you keep looking back. That’s why Jesus said:
“No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
— Luke 9:62 (NIV)

Surrendering Your Baggage
If we want to live the life God created us for, we need to leave our baggage behind. That means surrendering our regrets, our guilt, our old identities, and even our successes.

When the Israelites left Egypt, they didn’t just walk away from slavery—they walked into God’s promises for them. But they had to keep moving forward, step by step, day by day, trusting that God’s plan was better than what they were leaving behind.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
— John 8:36 (NIV)

A New Destination
Spiritual moving day is about making room for what God has in store. It’s about clearing out the clutter of the past to embrace the new identity, new relationships, and new purpose He has prepared for you.

Moving forward requires faith. It means trusting God’s promises more than your own feelings or what you see in front of you.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Action Step:
Write down one thing from your past that you need to leave behind. In prayer, surrender it to God and ask Him to help you move forward into His plans for your life.
