Day 18: Honoring Relationships
God’s commandments are not arbitrary rules; they reveal His values. At the heart of the Ten Commandments is a deep concern for relationships. The first three focus on our relationship with God, while the others focus on our relationships with one another.
Consider the command to honor father and mother. This comes before even “do not kill,” because God knows that healthy relationships start in the family. When we learn to respect and honor those closest to us, we learn how to respect and honor life itself. From there, the circle widens to friends, neighbors, coworkers, and beyond.
In a culture where division and selfishness often dominate, the Ten Commandments remind us that faith is about building strong, life-giving relationships. To grow as disciples, we must prioritize how we love God and how we treat others.
Questions
- How are you honoring your closest relationships with family, friends, or parish community?
- Where might God be inviting you to repair or strengthen a relationship in your life?
