God’s Opinion
How many of our actions are dictated by the opinions of others? How concerned are we with impressing the people around us? It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves with others while constantly trying to get ahead. This way of thinking and living doesn’t lead to contentment, confidence, or peace. It only leads to insecurity, doubt, and chaos.
When we value God’s perspective above all else, we will stand upon the firm foundation of his unchanging faithfulness. His opinions of us don’t change, and there is nothing we can do to impress him. His love and attention aren’t based on our behavior, and his perceptions of us aren’t altered by our circumstances. When we value the opinions of others above all else, we build our lives on the shifting sands of human perspective. If we are set on pleasing others, we will find that the mark constantly moves. Pleasing people is an impossible goal that robs us of our joy along the way.
So, what does it look like to please the Lord? What does it look like to value his perspective above all else? Scripture says that God is easy to please. His burdens are light, and his commands are not burdensome. He doesn’t ask us to jump through hoops or tweak our lives to perfection. He cares far more about the state of our hearts and our nearness to him. His expectations do not waver, and his decrees are founded in love. His standards are rooted in kindness, and he knows what is best for us.
Instead of valuing the satisfaction of others, make it your aim to gratify God. Listen to his voice and follow his leadership. You don’t have to guess what he wants from you. He is clear, and he knows you more fully than anyone else does. Trust his intentions for you because they are good! Let pleasing him be your goal, and you will reach it.
In what area of your life are you seeking the approval of people?
