The Burning Altar - 14 Days of Calling the Church to Pray

DAY 14 OF 14

Praying the Will of God

“The purpose of prayer is not to get man’s will done in heaven, but to get God’s will done on earth.” – Warren Wiersbe

Prayer is not about convincing God to bend to our desires; it is about aligning our hearts to His. The most powerful prayers are not birthed from human preference but from God’s eternal purposes. When we pray the will of God, we touch heaven’s agenda and release it on earth.

Jesus modeled this in Gethsemane: “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). His surrender in prayer unlocked the plan of redemption for all humanity. Praying the will of God is not weakness—it is the deepest form of strength, because it acknowledges that God’s wisdom, timing, and purposes are higher than our own.

The Word of God reveals the will of God. His promises in Scripture give us the foundation for powerful, effective prayer. When we declare His Word back to Him in faith, we are not speaking empty wishes—we are standing on eternal truth. Prayer rooted in Scripture becomes unshakable because it is anchored in what God has already spoken.

When you pray His will, you pray with confidence. When you pray with confidence, heaven bends its ear, the Holy Spirit intercedes with groans too deep for words (Romans 8:26–27), and God answers. Not according to fleeting emotions, but according to His perfect plan.

Prayer is no longer about striving—it becomes about agreement. Agreement with God’s Word, God’s heart, and God’s will for His people.

Prayer

Father, align my heart with Yours. Teach me to pray according to Your will and not my own desires. Let Your Word shape my prayers, and let Your Spirit guide my intercession. I surrender my plans and choose to agree with heaven’s purposes. May my prayers be a vessel for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do I approach prayer seeking my will or surrendering to God’s will?
  2. How can I use Scripture more intentionally to shape my prayers?
  3. What area of my life do I need to surrender to God’s will today?
