Coming to Life: 30-Day Devotional

DAY 28 OF 30

The Lamb Who Was Slain

When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he identified Him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Every Jewish listener would have thought of the Passover lamb, whose blood covered the doorposts of Israelite homes in Egypt, sparing them from judgment. The lamb was central to Israel’s story of deliverance.

Isaiah described the Servant as a lamb led to the slaughter. Peter reminds us that our redemption came not with silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish. Revelation shows the Lamb enthroned, worshiped by all creation.

Jesus is the true Passover Lamb. His blood does not simply cover sin; it removes it. His sacrifice secures our freedom and forgiveness. The Lamb who was slain is also the Lamb who reigns. What began in Egypt with deliverance from slavery culminates in Christ with deliverance from sin and death.

This image of Jesus as the Lamb reminds us that salvation comes through sacrifice. Our freedom cost Him His life. Yet it also reminds us of victory. The Lamb who was slain is worthy of all worship. One day, every voice will join in declaring His glory.

As we reflect on the Lamb, we are called to live in both humility and hope. Humility, knowing our salvation came at great cost. Hope, knowing the Lamb reigns and we are secure in Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does seeing Jesus as the Lamb of God deepen your understanding of the cross?
  2. In what ways can you live today in the freedom His sacrifice purchased?

Prayer

Worthy is the Lamb, Lord Jesus. Thank You for shedding Your blood to take away my sin. Help me to live in the freedom and forgiveness You purchased, and to join the song of heaven declaring Your worth. Amen.
