30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriage

DAY 14 OF 30

Father, guide our conversations with grace and truth.

It didn’t hit me until I began truly digging into God’s Word every morning that when salt is used to describe believers (i.e. “salt of the earth” in Matthew 5:13 NIV and “seasoned with salt” in Colossians 4:6 NIV), the Lord wasn’t just saying our being or our voices should prick the taste buds of the world. No, no, no... salt does a lot more than just add flavor: salt preserves, salt protects, and salt cleanses. Yes, there is a flavor and an essence that as Christians we bring to the table, but when our conversations are laced with grace and “seasoned with salt” they bring healing and preservation! Truth poured out through the lens of grace is powerful and encouraging and life giving, especially in our marriages. Who else knows us like our spouse knows us? Who else gets an up close look at the frailties of our faith or the stumbling blocks we keep tripping over?

You get to see all the ways your spouse messes up, and they get to see your mess ups too! Consider this in the way you engage with your spouse. Are your words grace-filled and life-preserving? Are you allowing the grace poured out so freely on you to pour freely through you in how you speak to your spouse? Are you, by grace, pointing your spouse toward Jesus and his truth, protecting and preserving the precious gift of your marriage?

Today's Prayer:

Lord, today we come to you and our focus is on being grace filled and graceful with our spouse. We want to focus on truth and speak truth into our marriages. Today, would you help the words of our mouth protect and preserve our marriages.

About this Plan

30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriage

Bringing your marriage before the Lord is both powerful and redemptive. When two imperfect people stand on Scripture and invite God to strengthen their bond, they build a defense the enemy cannot break. What a gift to know God is for your marriage, and for you. These next 30 days are an invitation to declare his Word over your relationship and trust him with what only he can do: protect, grow, and fortify your marriage from the inside out.
