Weary of Waiting: Finding Peace in God's Plan

DAY 2 OF 5

By the time Sarah made her decision, years had passed.

The promise had come clearly. God said she and Abraham would have a child. But the months turned into years, and the years into decades, and her body told her what her heart feared: it was too late.

She had waited. Prayed. Hoped. But nothing changed. And the longer she waited, the heavier the silence became.

So, she acted.

She gave her servant Hagar to Abraham, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she could build something with her own two hands that God hadn’t delivered in his time.

Her decision wasn’t rebellious. It was weary. Not born of pride, but of pain.

Sarah was trying to hold together the pieces of a dream that felt like it was slipping away.

Most of us can relate.

That moment when you start to wonder if waiting on God is wishful thinking. The temptation to take control. To build a backup plan. To push just a little harder so the ache of waiting doesn’t stretch so wide.

Yesterday, we named that ache. We took the first step in this five-part journey toward peace in God’s plan: we Recognized the anxiety that rises when we feel behind.

Today, we’re invited to take the second step: Release.

Don’t panic… releasing is not the same as giving up. It’s not about shutting down or pretending the longing doesn’t matter.

It’s simply loosening our grip on the timelines we’ve created. The pressure we feel to perform, and the false belief that everything depends on us.

Sarah held onto her timeline, and when it didn’t match God’s, she took matters into her own hands.

We can do this too. Sometimes quietly and sometimes boldly, we decide that if God hasn’t moved yet, maybe we should.

But the cost of that kind of control is always higher than we think.

Sarah’s plan introduced deep pain… into her home, into her heart, and into the very promise she longed to protect.

And yet, even in her misstep, God didn’t abandon her.

Which reminds us that releasing is not something we do once. It’s a rhythm. A way of life. A grace we keep returning to.

What might you need to release today?

Maybe it’s the belief that faster is better. Maybe it’s the quiet lie that you’ve missed your moment. Maybe it’s the weight of comparison, or the ache of trying to prove you’re still worth something, even if things haven’t gone the way you hoped.

When the feeling of being behind rises again, as it often does, try this: Pause. Breathe. Open your hands.

And pray something simple like: “God, I release the timeline I thought I needed. I release the pressure to figure it all out. I release my fear that you are late.”

You don’t have to carry this alone. God never asked you to.

When we release what was never ours to begin with, our souls grow lighter. And in that holy space, peace begins to return.

Because peace isn’t found in getting caught up in making it happen, peace is found in surrendering to the pace of grace.

Prayer: God, I open my hands and lay down what I can’t control. Teach me to trust your timeline more than my own.

What if God’s delays are not denials, but unexpected gifts? Join me tomorrow as we begin to receive what he’s offering, even here.
