Built by the Lord: God's Design for Family and Business Success From Psalm 127

DAY 1 OF 4

Provision

Seventeen years ago, we built a house. The volume of decisions we had to make was overwhelming. Things I never considered before, like kitchen cabinet knobs (who knew there were different kinds), the number of outlets in each room (you need more than you think), and the inconvenient location of supporting walls (although I recommend keeping them where they need to be). The process was all-consuming and exhausting for several months. We love our home, but we were honestly a little disappointed that some things didn’t turn out the way we had pictured.

And that’s how life goes sometimes. Many times, actually. We have a clear vision of what we want, a plan to make it happen, and we put in the necessary work. But, in the end, the outcome is disappointing. Maybe that has happened to you in a relationship or possibly with your business. It could be anything in life, and this can be discouraging and frustrating.

Ever feel that way?

Sometimes, a poor outcome is the consequence of a bad decision in life. However, many times, things happen due to no fault of our own but simply because we live in a fallen world. Things are not supposed to be ideal here. The good news is that God promises a perfect living place for Believers to experience one day.

John 14:2-3 (ESV)

“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Heaven will be perfect not because of some amazing cabinet knobs or the correct number of outlets but because we will be living with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! And if you have surrendered to Him, He is preparing that place for you right now. It’s fun to think about Jesus, the Carpenter, building a dwelling place for us. We know that He will be on time and on budget, and we will be thrilled with what He has prepared for us!

But until He comes again or calls us home, we will live in earthly shelters. And, as you work to build your life and business and home, it is comforting to remember Psalm 127:1a (ESV): “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

God builds. He builds your home, and He builds your business. He is Jehovah-Jireh, the Provider. So, if God is not behind your project, your effort is in vain. If you are doing things on your own, you are laboring for nothing. That may feel like stress, chaos, and disappointment. But if God is in it? The labor is sweet and rewarding, and you will experience calmness and peace in your life. Because in the Lord, your labor is never in vain. (I Corinthians 15:58)

It doesn’t really matter where you live here on Earth. What matters is that the Lord builds your home and that He builds your business. So, the first step to take control of your life and regain balance is to surrender to the Builder. He will build your life in His way, in His timing, and according to His design. And it will be perfect. You can trust Him fully in this.

Prayer for Today: Lord, thank You for being the God who builds. You are my Provider. Lord, I surrender to You as the Builder of my life. Build my home, my life, and my business according to Your design. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Tomorrow, we will explore how God's protection enables us to balance life and business more effectively.
