Holy, Healthy, Whole: Growing Fruits of the Spirit for Weight Loss and Wellness

DAY 12 OF 30

How Much Longer?

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

When I was 100 pounds heavier, I had little patience for the time it would take to get to my goal weight.

I remember plotting out plans and charts.

  • If I lose 1 pound a week, by Christmas I’ll weigh this much....
  • If I stay strict with my eating, by Easter, I’ll be here…
  • By summer, I might be in this smaller size...

The reality is that weight loss rarely (never?!) happens in a straight line, and there are weight gains, plateaus, and falls off the wagon.

If you're impatient to reach your weight loss goal, consider adopting a new, Spirit-filled perspective.

The truth is that God has a plan and a timeline for how your journey will progress, and where you are today is exactly where you’re supposed to be - because here you are.

Reflection: Are you impatient with your weight loss progress? How is this impatience holding you back from maturing in faith?

Prayer: Lord, I’m so impatient to get to my goal weight! I think life will be so much better when I get to a certain number of pounds, but I know that’s not based on Your truth. Develop the fruit of patience in me. In Jesus’ name I ask this, Amen.
