No Days Off: A 7-Day Devotional

DAY 5 OF 7

Working Out Your Salvation

Devotional:

Did you know that salvation is only the starting line for your faith? Maybe you thought saying “yes” to Jesus was a one-time decision, but salvation is the starting line of a continual journey of knowing Him.

Philippians 2:12-13 reminds us that we have to continue to work out our salvation. There’s a difference between working for salvation and working out salvation. We don’t earn our way into God’s family—it’s a gift, given freely through Jesus. But once we receive that gift, we’re called to work it out—to live it, grow in it, and let it shape every part of who we are. In theological terms, this is called “sanctification.” It’s not just about us getting more of God; it’s about God getting more of us.

Jesus never said, “Go and become Christians.” He said, “Come, follow me.” Being a disciple isn’t about checking a box—it’s about following Him, day by day, step by step.

And when you know who you are as a follower, it changes how you live. It’s not about trying harder or doing more; it’s about putting yourself in a position to experience His presence, His power, and His purpose in your life. So how do we work out our salvation and grow in spiritual strength?

John 15:10 tells us, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love.”

At first glance, obedience might sound heavy, like a burden. But obedience isn’t about what God wants from you—it’s about what God has for you. A life full of His power, presence, and life-giving relationships. But we can’t obey God if we don’t know what He says, which is why it’s important to keep reading God’s Word.

Obedience isn’t a weight—it’s a pathway. It’s not about earning—it’s about aligning. Aligning your life with the One who knows you, loves you, and wants you to flourish. So keep going. Keep showing up. Keep working out what God is working in you. He’s not done with you yet.

Questions:

  1. Where have you been viewing obedience as a burden rather than a blessing?
  2. How can you intentionally position yourself to experience more of God’s presence?
  3. What step of obedience is God inviting you into today?

Prayer:

Father, I don’t want to just go through the motions—I want to follow You. Help me work out what you’re working in me. Keep me connected to Your presence, and give me the strength to run my race. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
