Knowing Your Value
We all have an innate desire to fit in. Have you ever noticed how no one feels truly comfortable at work until they find their spot in the break room? It’s part of feeling valued—having a place where you belong. Maybe it’s your friends, your team, or your role in a group. Even that large social media following can make you feel important for a moment.
But how much substance do those things hold? The answer depends on how you see yourself. If you don’t think you’re very important, you might settle for fleeting sources of value, but deep down, you should desire more than just to fit in.
We can easily assign ourselves a low value when we don’t feel like we matter. Sports is a great example—when we think we won’t make an impact, we hang back and don’t contribute. We label ourselves as “not worth it” and stay out of the way. Maybe you’ve felt this way before, and if you have, you know how heavy that mindset can be.
Here’s the truth: Your value isn’t found in what you achieve or who you sit with in the break room—it’s rooted in something permanent. If your purpose is based on temporary things, like who you’re hanging out with or what you’ve accomplished, the problem is clear: those things can be taken away. Your value needs to be built on a deeper foundation—one that doesn’t shift.
Thankfully, it is.
You were created intentionally by God, in His image. That means your value doesn’t come from what you do, but from the One who made You.
No matter what life looks like, you reflect God’s infinite value and purpose. He doesn’t make mistakes, and you are no exception. When those thoughts creep in—I’m worthless, I have no purpose—remember: God’s value in you cannot be changed or diminished.
