Is there a time limit on forgiveness?

I was confronted by this question in the film The Miracle Club. In this story, forgiveness is needed by all involved in this tight-knit community when they are confronted by their past.

Films like this begin to show how far people are willing to push forgiveness to the edges.

Resentment only hurts the one who holds onto it, especially within marriage. Bitterness eats away at the soul, causing a ripple effect that transcends relationships and time.

Only true forgiveness can stop the pain.

Two things to consider on this topic within marriage: one is the time limit on forgiveness, and the second is why we should forgive at all.

Thankfully, when it comes to Jesus, there is no time limit in seeking and offering the miraculous gift of forgiveness.

And He provides the reason why we should forgive.

Why? Because He first forgave us, shouldn't we do the same for our spouse?

And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. Mark 11:25 (ESV)
