Acts 23:12-35 | When God's Promises Are Hard to BelieveНамуна

Moving Forward in God’s Promises
We started this week by addressing the fact that sometimes God’s promises can be hard to believe, especially in the face of overwhelming situations that seem to stand against them. In the moment, it can be hard to believe that what God has promised will prove itself true. It’s in hindsight, when we look back and see God’s faithfulness and provision every step of the way, that faith becomes easier.
What’s harder is moving forward in faith without already having that hindsight. But that’s what faith is – trusting God before we see all outcomes with a faith that tells God, “You’ve got this.”
Despite the odds stacked against him, Paul was safely delivered to Governor Felix in Caesarea, moving one step closer to Rome, just as Jesus had promised. God’s promises are sure, even when the journey is filled with threats and uncertainty. Not that Paul reached Rome yet, but he was one step closer. God’s promises may not be fulfilled all at once, but he’ll prove faithful in each and every step.
What’s in store for Paul next? Acts will tell us, though, from Paul’s perspective, he just didn’t know yet. What he did know was that God was faithful. God keeps his promises. God’s word is true.
Whatever you face, whether threats as big as those facing Paul, or life’s daily challenges to your faith in God, move forward in faith that God’s got this, and God’s got you.
Prayer
Thank God for his faithfulness. Ask him to strengthen your trust in his promises as you move forward. Ask for patient faith, trusting God’s timing every step of the way.
If this plan helped orient you to the ongoing work and teaching of Jesus in this world, we encourage you to subscribe to our other plans on Acts.
About this Plan

Life may lead us to doubt God’s promises, but Acts is about the certainty of his promise and plan. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
