Win–Build–Send | Stories to Encourage You to Grow in Your Faith and Join God's Mission

DAY 29 OF 30

God Goes Before You

“I can’t do this.” It wasn’t said out loud, but it repeated in my head multiple times. What am I doing here? How am I supposed to take a step, make a move, or even know what to do?

These thoughts hit me whenever doubts creep in, a feeling many call “imposter syndrome.” Imposter syndrome is the idea that I am more unsure of myself on the inside than what people see on the outside. As an outgoing, action-oriented person, I’ve faced these questions at different times.

I am not alone. Maybe Joshua had impostor syndrome. His previous boss had done amazing things. People talked about how no one did as marvelous and powerful deeds as his last boss (Moses). And here is Joshua, possibly wondering, ‘What will I do? How will I do anything?’

I love, love, love God’s response. In short, God tells Joshua: it isn’t up to you. Yes, Joshua, be strong and courageous. But remember it’s not because you are excellent, innovative, or know what to do. Be strong and courageous because I am with you.

God Almighty is with you—a game-changing truth. You don’t have to have all the answers. You can struggle with imposter syndrome and still be strong and courageous. It is up to God, not you.

Application Questions:

  • How will you step forward in word or action to be sent by God in his strength?
  • How will you ignore the thoughts that it is up to you? And step out in His strength and courage?

Prayer:

"Lord, help me and my new friend reading this devotion with me to remember that courage doesn’t come from us. We don’t need to be prepared, intelligent, confident, and know what to do. Actually, Lord, You work on our weaknesses and are the reason we can be strong and courageous. YOU are WITH US! Thank you, Lord, for that simple and yet profound truth. Help us to see and experience that reality today as you send us into our days. Amen."
