Let’s Get Real:

Yesterday we talked about what makes us feel close to God.
Today? We’re flipping the script.

What are the things that make you feel far from Him?

This one’s a little harder—because now we’re getting honest about the stuff we’d rather ignore.
The distractions. The habits. The choices.
The things we turn to that promise comfort but always leave us feeling emptier than before.

Here’s the truth:
Sometimes the things that make us feel far from God don’t even seem bad.
They just slowly shift our focus—until we’re too numb to notice how distant we’ve become.

And whether it’s TikTok rabbit holes, toxic friendships, or habits we know aren’t helpful…
If we’re serious about closeness with God, we have to be serious about naming what’s in the way.

So, What Now?

Start by breaking it down into two simple categories:

  1. The things you can control
    These might be choices you make—like who you spend time with, how you talk, what you watch, or how much time you spend on your phone.
  2. The things you can’t control
    These might be things like grief, trauma, sickness, or situations that have left you feeling distant from God without choosing it.

Now ask:
What from the first list are you willing to release?
What are you ready to do less, cut back, or walk away from completely—because it’s keeping you from the life you really want?

And for the second list—the stuff you can’t control—ask God to meet you in it.
Don’t hide it. Don’t pretend it doesn’t matter. Bring it to Him.

Then go back to your list from yesterday.
What are the things that make you feel close to God? How can you lean into those when the hard stuff hits?

Because here’s the deal:
You will run somewhere when life gets heavy.
Make sure it’s to Jesus—and not the distractions that only pull you further away.

Your Challenge Today:

Make both lists:
– What’s distracting you from God that you can control?
– What’s weighing you down that you can’t control?

Then, get practical.
Pick one thing from the first list to step away from this week.
And when the second list feels heavy, intentionally run to something that makes you feel close to God instead.

Prayer You Can Pray:

Jesus, I want to be close to You. Show me what’s getting in the way. Give me courage to lay down the things I can control and wisdom to trust You with the things I can’t. Help me to run to You first—not as a last resort. Thank You for meeting me right where I am. Amen.

Bottom Line:

Distance from God rarely happens all at once.
It’s the little choices, the unchecked habits, the quiet drift.
But it’s never too late to come back.
Be honest. Get intentional. And make the move toward closeness again.
