Journey Through Ezekiel and Daniel

DAY 1 OF 15

Intro

Nicole introduces this course about Ezekiel, the prophet who preached during the exile, which became the crucible for God’s people to once again be reminded of the real King of the Cosmos and the plans he has for the them when they return from exile.

Intro

Nicole introduces this lesson in which we meet Ezekiel, a prophet who was called to protect God’s people by being their “watchman”—a very serious assignment.

Ezekiel’s Prophetic Word: In the Text

Ezekiel, like Jeremiah, was a prophet before and during the Exile. This shaped his message and his role.

A Symbol for Ezekiel

Like Jeremiah and the other Old Testament prophets, Ezekiel was, above all, a spokesman for God’s Word. His role was to guard the Law and also to look out for the people. The term “watchman” appears more in Ezekiel than any other prophetic book. It suggests the role of guardian and sentry, positioned at an outpost to mediate the relationship between God and his people. God is commanding Ezekiel, in effect: “When you see danger coming, shout! Draw the people’s attention back to my Word, and make them accountable to my character in this time of great depravity.”

Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me. When I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet if you have warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered yourself.
