Timeless Kingdom

DAY 1 OF 15

Everyone collects something. For many people, it’s about money and security. They spend their lives trying to climb the social, corporate, and financial success ladders. Some people seek out experiences. They’re always looking for the next great destination, the next thrill, the following story they’ll be able to tell. Then some collect possessions. Whether or not they have the money, they’re always trying to keep up with the latest and greatest. It might be the search for the latest gadget or the newest high-tech car. While there’s nothing wrong with money, travel, or possessions, all of these approaches to life are short-sighted.

In the Gospels, we read about a wealthy and powerful man. He had everything this world could offer, but he didn’t have eternal life. He spent his days seeking out things that would not last when what he needed was something timeless: God’s kingdom. Of course, we read in Scripture that Jesus loved this man; He even told him as much! Jesus’ answer to this man’s question wasn’t to get more and more stuff; it was to give it away in favor of following Jesus. Possessions had a stranglehold on this young ruler’s heart, but Jesus’ prescription was nothing short of heart surgery to remove the wealth that was killing him.

What is Jesus saying to you? What temporary things might He be asking you to give up so that you can take hold of His timeless kingdom?

About this Plan

Timeless Kingdom

When something is described as timeless, it’s something that remains relevant regardless of when it came to be. It has staying power and a lasting impact. We long for something timeless. But what if that desire in our hearts is pointing to something more profound? In this devotional, we’ll look at how the longing in our hearts for something good that lasts is an echo of the God we are longing for in this life.
