To Serve & Protect

DAY 8 OF 10

8. To Protect Your Company

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others
and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45 (NLT)

Your workplace is where you can offer everyday protection to others.

You might not work in security, physically protecting the people and premises. You might not work in public relations, protecting the image of your company. You might not work in human resources, protecting the rights of your colleagues.

If, in fact, you happen to be employed to work with one of these examples mentioned, it is more obvious that your day job entails a certain amount of protection for others. But even if you are the janitor, the canteen barista, the head of a division, the CEO or even self-employed, the work you do and the people you deal with need your protective service as well.

Jesus, the ultimate man, came to serve and protect. He protected the dignity, the spirituality and the very lives of the people He came across. He especially protected His closest followers while walking and working with them during His ministry on earth (John 18:9).

We can also serve, protect and stand in the gap for others at work! Whether we guard over the dignity of our colleagues and clients or intercede for them to have divine encounters with God. Jesus stood in the gap for those who labored with Him. He spoke up for those who were burdened and heavy laden. We can also protect people, rescue projects and live with purpose in our daily work.

Protecting your People that you work with or to whom you provide service should become your second nature as a godly man. Physically yes, but in everyday encounters this will more likely require us to not join the gossip, speak up for fair treatment in the workplace, check in with a colleague or client’s wellbeing and of course, pray for and pray with them whenever you have the opportunity.

Protecting your Projects requires us to guard over the work itself. Keep showing enthusiasm for the work you do! Take pride in what you do, then you’ll truly bear Christ’s image, build a good reputation for both you and the company you work at, and experience God’s blessing on the work of your hands. Whether you sweep floors or seal big budget deals, whether you travel the world or work remotely from home, your work is important and how you tackle it is even more significant.

Protecting your Purpose in the workplace can be done by being a living testimony to Christ. Show your walk with Christ by being an example to others. But also, when the opportunity arises, don’t shy away to testify about the truth of Jesus. We are not all preachers and evangelists, but we can all be disciples in the workplace, living and laboring for the ultimate purpose Jesus called us to (Matthew 28:19-20).

If you never had the opportunity to share your testimony at work, would people still know you are a representative of Christ simply by your work ethic? Would they get to know Jesus by how you treat them?

At the end of the day, it is God who rewards us. He is our true master. What we do in life truly echoes in eternity. So, let our conduct reflect Christ’s.

Let us guard over our colleagues, our clients, and our calling!

Read Ephesians 6:5-9 and Reflect on the following…

  • What’s your observations from today’s reading on guarding your workplace?
  • How can you stand in the gap for colleagues and clients each day?
  • Where can you find a greater calling within your current employment?
  • Who and what do you need to pray for today?
