Essential and Unshakable

DAY 14 OF 30

Depending on God

The word that comes to mind when I think about dependence on God is “reliant.”

From the provision of manna to the Lord’s prayer, God’s reminder to his children is, “Depend on me.”

“He was the one who fed you in the desert with manna, which your ancestors had never seen. He did this in order to humble you and test you. But he also did this so that things would go well for you in the end.” – Deuteronomy 8:16 GW

Not only does God ask us to depend on him, but he also often surprises us with resources and leads us on paths we “had never seen.”

Imagine how terrified the nation of Israel was with the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptians in close pursuit behind them.

God told Moses to lead them through the sea, and Moses told them to follow:

“Your road went through the sea.
Your path went through raging water,
but your footprints could not be seen.”
–Psalm 77:19 GW

Why does God ask us to depend on him?

“So that things would go well for you in the end.”

When you’re a child of God, he does ALL things for his purpose and his glory — and your benefit.

When it appears that God is asking you to trust and be unwaveringly reliant, don’t hesitate. Depend on him.

Ask yourself:

Where can I depend on God more and less on my credentials, skills, and abilities?

For reflection:

Lord, as I work this week, show me how to lift thanksgiving and praise you for your unfailing love and unlimited provision, and remind me you are a God of generosity and not scarcity whose power is made perfect in my weakness. Amen.
