Heroes Realize They Carry a Legacy

Superman carries deep within him both a mission and a mandate: to help humanity. This was his legacy commission.

As a Believer, you also carry a great legacy - given to you by God.

Hebrews 11 is one of the most extraordinary – and daunting - list of accomplishments by heroes of the faith that you’ll ever read. The chapter includes examples of bold and dangerous living, including routing kings and kingdoms, and surviving lions and fires and floods. They braved hardships. Some were tortured but never gave in. They endured abuse, whips, dungeons, and chains. All this was accomplished by people who were very much like you and me.

The only difference between them and us might be that they’d adopted heaven’s perspective and refused to live according to the limits of this earth. Do you realize we are their descendants?? As you read the following verse, be at once awed and humbled - because our God Most High has counted US worthy to be numbered as one of them:

And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. (verses 39–40)

We are linked to the long chain made from their lives of faith. We are part of the final chapter of their ongoing story. All of their heroic acts are waiting to be completed when they are joined together with ours. This is our heritage! This is YOUR legacy!

Even now, I pray that these words stir the faith that has been seeded within your heart and that the hope of a hero inspires you. It is exciting to look in the mirror and realize there is far more to you than anyone can actually see. The realm of the unseen holds your secret hero identity.
