Reading With the People of God #15 PurposeНамуна

Longing, Devotion, and the Power of the Word
In Song of Songs 5:2-8, we witness the ache of love delayed. The bride is stirred by the voice of her beloved but, rising too late, finds he is gone. Her search becomes a journey of longing, vulnerability, and persistence. This poetic picture reminds us that love often requires pursuit—that true devotion stirs us to seek even when the way is difficult.
In 1 Timothy 4, Paul urges Timothy to train himself for godliness, to set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Central to Paul’s instruction is a deep devotion to God’s Word and calling. The Christian life is not passive—it’s an active pursuit of purpose and faithfulness in the ordinary and the public.
Together, these readings speak to a purposeful life: one that longs for deeper connection with God and is committed to growing in godliness through both desire and discipline.
Reflection Question:
Where is God calling you to pursue Him more purposefully—with your heart, your habits, or your voice?
Prayer of Illumination:
Lord, stir my heart with longing for You. Teach me to train my life around Your truth. As I read today, may Your Spirit guide and shape me for all You’ve called me to be. Amen.
About this Plan

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
